The “Quinn Country” three-part documentary finished last night on RTE1.
I thought it was a tremendous film cum documentary which was well worth making and broadcasting, notwithstanding the criticism from some on Twitter who questioned RTE’s decision to allow Quinn so much airtime to tell his story.
That criticism was most voluble after episode 1 and 2 but episode 3 rounded out the series for it told of the violence and thuggery and intimidation involved in attempts to have Quinn resorted to his throne and back in charge of the companies he had lost on a gamble.
Alan Dukes summed up Quinn’s legacy well at the finish: Quinn will be remembered for creating tremendous economic activity and jobs in a forgotten, neglected part of the country but gambled it all away.
