Jack & Jones ordered to stop blanket ban on a legal entitlement for employees

I republished an old video of mine about the right to be paid a Sunday premium for working on Sunday a few days ago.

A commenter commented “isn’t that law in force for years?”

I agreed that it was as it is provided for in the Organisation of Working Time Act, 1997 but it was still the law and many employers were in breach of the provision.

A couple of days later I read a report in the Irish Times of a leading Irish retailer, Jack & Jones having a blanket practice of denying the Sunday pay premium.

Thus, while a law may be dated it may also be ignored and/or abused by employers and it is useful to remind both employees and employers of legal obligations and rights.

Even if the law is “in force for years”.
