The Stasi museum in Leipzig-Runden Ecke

We visited the Runden Ecke museum yesterday. This museum is housed in the former headquarters of the Stasi secret service in Leipzig.

Taking the audio tour of the Runden Ecke and listening to the account of the efforts the Stasi, working hand in hand with the KGB, sought to control and repress its own people in the former East Germany was chilling.

The steps to watch and control the citizens of East Germany were impressive in their depravity and wrong headedness.

And one fun fact: one Vladimir Putin spent five years as a KGB operative in Dresden in the early 1980s, heavily involved in these activities which had no regard whatsoever for the rule of law.
