Will the State succeed in countering misinformation around asylum seekers?

It was reported yesterday evening on the RTE news that the government is to commence a campaign of communication to try to counter the misinformation and disinformation around the question of accommodating asylum seekers.

It is a campaign which I will watch with a great deal of interest.

It seems to me that government will have to become far more effective in communicating policies and information than it has been to date.

It seems that the State has been left behind when it comes to using and exploiting the power of social media.

How effective the campaign will be remains to be seen and will be keenly watched by many.

But the fact that there is a recognition to counter propaganda and misinformation is an essential start.
