I firmly believe that the idea of being the centre of attention and making decisions which have worldwide resonance appeals to his towering, narcissistic ego.
The queue of foreign leaders from all over the worlld coming to ask him for mercy and a chance to negotiate is precisely what strokes Trump’s ego.
He can ignore anyone in the Republican party who has sufficient balls to challenge him about his absurd, self harming decisions.
But he cannot ignore the markets. They will do for him in the end.
