The midterm elections in the United States-an appalling vista looms

The midterm elections are on in the United States next week and they are being labelled as a “fight for democracy” by the Democrats.

If you were to listen to the vox pops of Trump and Republican supporters at the various rallies being held around the United States, you would have to agree. The level of ignorance, delusion, and happy detachment from reality is frightening.

This is a scary scenario given the size of the United States and its influence in the world.

Between Trump and some of the Trump endorsed candidates there is a wide range of hate speech, xenophobia, homophobia, racism on display. The thought that the Republicans will control the two houses of government in the near future, rendering Joe Biden’s presidency powerless, is alarming.

These are interesting times ahead.

But I am relying on the Department of Justice doing its job and indicting and securing a conviction against Donal J Trump for his various crimes. He must encounter the majesty of the law or the United States is in for a bumpy ride for a long time to come.
