Being without power at home for the last few days has meant an enforced digital detox, and it has had some surprising and significant benefits.
No internet, limited phone, no Netflix, no YouTube, no social media, no television.
But one of the positive consequences has been absence of distractions, absence of notifications, no comments on social media to respond to, and being left with your own thoughts with time and space to think with intention.
And it has been incredibly useful, looking back over old notebooks to see what I was thinking last year and for the last 5 years, and putting my thoughts down with pen and paper now.
Turning my mind to what is the best and most efficient way to do certain things now would never have come about if I had the opportunity to watch another YouTube video or check my social media stats/analytics.
This digital detox has thrown up a valuable opportunity: the chance to think and focus without notifications and distraction.
And I would strongly recommend one at least once a year, even though this one has been forced on us.
There must be an opportunity to run digital detox retreats (weekends)?
