Taking rude good health for granted

I have been buckled over for the last two days with tremendous pains in my stomach. The pain was so bad that it actually affected my mobility and ability to walk.

I think now I know the source of it-something I consumed-but the presence of the incessant, piercing pain during my ordinary working day was a useful reminder not to take my health for granted.

I have been lucky enough to have enjoyed good health all my life-touch wood-and it is easy to take it for granted as a right.

But it is not a right. Sometimes you catch a bad break, and many people spend most of their lives battling with one type of medical ailment or other. I don’t think about these individuals much, or at all to be honest.

But I have thought about them over the last couple of days. And how your health truly is your wealth.
