Nobody pays cash anymore

I was in a pub in Galway yesterday afternoon-An Pucan near Eyre Square-watching the hurling matches on one of the many screens in the pub.

I could not help noticing, however, that virtually nobody getting drink at any of the many bars in the place actually pay cash.

They are tapping their card or waving the mobile phone around the place.

But the actual act of taking out cold, hard cash and counting it out and getting rid of your change, or checking your change back from the bar staff, no longer seems to exist.

You would have to doubt to what extent you can keep an eye on your spend by comparison with carrying and paying with cash. It might be more convenient to wave your mobile phone or tap your card but managing your finances must be a nightmare.
