It’s probably a sign of advancing years when you have a secret pleasure such as the novels of Anthony Trollope.
I got a freebie recently from Audible, a novel by Trollope called “The Last Chronicle of Barset”. And I am enjoying it thoroughly.
If you like the English language and appreciate sparkling, observant, witty writing and realistic Victorian era dialogue and social issues Trollope’s novels are well worth your time.
I appreciate and understand Hemingway’s philosophy of using plain words and muscular language and writing.
But often the writing of Thomas Mann, Charles Dickens, Thomas Hardy, and Anthony Trollope is a beautiful antidote to so-called modern writing.
