The essential, democratic work on Sunday morning

I was out early last weekend on my bicycle and on my Vespa.

As I went through the small hamlet of Kilshanroe, near Johnstownbridge, Co. Kildare, I saw a couple of election workers walking down the footpath with election posters looking for the most suitable location for their placement.

And it struck me that it was such a democratic exercise and one we need to continue in order to maintain our society and culture.

Despite the abuse of trolls and spreaders of hate on social media, tapping away on their keyboards and telling us how things should be, the persons out on Sunday morning hanging up election posters and advancing their candidates and policies through the ballot box is the way it should work.

Not in bile filled, racist posts on Twitter or elsewhere.
