I published a video the other day about the assault on Roderic O’Gorman, a Minister in the government, while he was out canvassing his neighbourhood for the upcoming general election.
I expected a good deal of comments along the lines that he had it coming, he was not assaulted badly enough, and so on.
But I was not expecting the volume of commenters that seem to be implicitly or expressly saying that the assault was acceptable, it did not really count, it was trivial, and so on.
I hope and trust that there is a large, silent majority who agree that assaulting persons putting themselves forward for election and engaging in an inherently democratic exercise should not be assaulted, no matter how violently you may disagree.
The sheer volume of crazy comments, however, would make you wonder, and fear.
