Populist videos versus the more obscure

I am getting a lot of mileage out of my coverage of the Conor McGregor/Nikita Hand civil trial in the High Court.

The viewing figures, engagement, comments are off the charts by comparison with my usual videos. But I need to figure out if these types of videos are of practical benefit to me and my solicitor’s practice.

It is flattering and ego boosting to see the great numbers, but whether any genuine clients emerge from this type of video is hard to discern.

I will continue to review the situation, and it is certainly tempting to take the ball and run with it in this space on YouTube, especially when I am uniquely positioned to give commentary on such cases, if I choose.

I certainly do not want to turn my back on the meat and potatoes of my channel: videos about various aspects of Irish law, some of which may be more obscure and less sexy than the Conor McGregor trial.

But I cannot ignore the gateway that this type of trial, and video, has opened up.
