You would imagine that in any dispute or battle between employer and employee the employer has the greater clout and arms at his/her disposal.
But this is not the case.
Some small employers are, quite frankly, clueless. And need managing and steering and guidance.
Bigger employers enjoy the benefits of a full time HR person or department. But small employers don’t and run the risk of winging it if a dispute arises.
This is where hostages to fortune are thrown down. For example, wholly inappropriate and injudicious emails or letters or offers sent to the employee in open correspondence.
You just know that these letters or emails will be put into evidence at the Workplace Relations Commission if the dispute gets that far.
Employers can often take as much managing as employees, is my observation from experience.
