Learning to say “no”

After years of hustling and grinding in a wide range of businesses I am now in the enviable position of being able to turn away work.

In fact, it is in my own interest, I believe, to say “no” and turn away work.

Not out of arrogance or laziness or indolence or any other reason, save for not having the capacity to take on more at this time.

It is not easy to say “no”, especially when you encounter many good, worthy causes and pleasant individuals who need assistance.

But I firmly believe you must learn to say “no” if you do not have the capacity to give the new and existing clients your best work and focus.

It is healthier, too, on many heads.

This is one of the hardest things to learn and implement, especially for a sole trader who has seen quiet days and times and who has struggled to make a decent living at times.

But that was then, this is now.
