GAA Go forced me to Croke Park yesterday

Gaa Go forced me to Croke Park yesterday.

And it was great.

As a young lad I spend my summer weekends in Croke Park watching every match that took place.

But over the last few years it has become so convenient to watch the matches on the telly that I have got out of the habit of going.

I fancied Galway to give the Dubs a good run yesterday. So I bought a ticket to watch in Croke Park.

It was the only way I could see the game.

And I saw history being made with Galway’s first win over Dublin in the championship for 90 years or thereabouts.

And there was the bonus of Roscommon v Armagh, Saturday evening games, the atmosphere, the much improved stadium and facilities, the families from Galway and Roscommon and Armagh and Dublin and the roaring and shouting at the ref.

I’d never have gone but for the matches being behind GAA Go’s paywall.

And I accept I don’t have a constitutional right to see all GAA matches all the time from the comfort of my living room. (I never made that argument, to be fair. But I have heard it made).

P.S. I got overpriced chips and “hamburger”, too, and they were most agreeable around 6 pm.
