Enoch Burke was released from Mountjoy Prison by the High Court yesterday.
He had not purged his contempt. In fact, I am not even sure he was invited, as he usually is, to purge it.
But the Judge took the view that Burke’s preference, for whatever reason, was to stay in jail.
So he released him and doubled the fine he is to be levied if he shows up at the school again.
It will be interesting to see what happens in January when Wilson’s Hospital School reopens after Christmas. But most betting persons are willing to wager he will show up again.
It is hard to see where or how this will end.
But it will have to end sooner rather than later given the massive legal costs being incurred, together with the waste of other resources such as Courts’ time which could be more usefully deployed in settling disputes between other citizens.
