What separates the great horse trainers from the rest (and what we can learn as employers)

I have always wondered about the genius of Aidan O’Brien, Willie Mullins, Gordon Elliot and other great racehorse trainers.

I have always been puzzled about what separates them from the others. I think I know now.

I discovered this theory in the context of employment and managing people.

It dawned on me that I need to treat each person as an individual, with his/her own personality and needs, in terms of management.

It struck me then that that is what separates the great trainers from the average. The greats manage each horse and his/her personality as a unique individual.

It was only a few years ago when I heard a racehorse trainer (Aidan O’Brien) talking about the horse’s mind.

Now I understand.
