Diarmuid Phelan Acquitted of Murder

I am surprised at the verdict brought in by the jury in the murder trial of Diarmuid Phelan, Trinity College law professor and Senior Counsel.

I can understand the acquittal of the charge of murder but expected manslaughter to be the verdict.

I am not seeking to undermine or question the verdict and am sure the jury did their best and did it honestly.

But it is difficult for the ordinary citizen to understand, and there is a suspicion that other factors may have been at play, whether consciously or subconsciously.

In any case, the jury has spoken and we must accept it as the outcome within our system of justice (and law).
