When I first started marketing my business online in 2009 it was harder than it is now.
Back then the big beast was Google because Google dominated search with the two biggest search engines: Google and YouTube.
A lot has changed over the subsequent decade or so and it is easier now to build a tribe and a brand online.
In the old days you needed to be in good standing with Google and if you did not rank well in search you were going to struggle to make an impact. Now you have TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, Spotify (for podcasting).
These platforms provide an alternative route to building a brand and acquiring clients online. Now the one thing you need to be able to do is communicate well, ideally by video.
Although communicating well was always a condition of building your brand. But the video opportunity is truly a game changer; all you have to do is look at the number of people who have built platforms on Instagram and TikTok alone, never mind the other options.
