Noisy independents failing to make an impact?

A commenter left a comment last week on my YouTube channel about how he was looking forward to the elections in Ireland. He looked forward to seeing the hiding independents and anti-establishment candidates were going to give to the established parties, especially Fianna Fail, Fianna Gael, the Greens etc.

An opinion poll was published last week in the Irish Times and this particular poll looked at the polling figures in the European elections.

And, surprise, surprise, the independents, apart from Ciaran Mullooly, are making no impact whatsoever.

In fact, most of them are on 1% or less in the polls.

Is it the case that the empty vessels who make the most noise in social media are failing to persuade the general public that they represent the majority of the people, as they often claim in relation to a range of issues.

Is it the case that it is easy enough to raise a ruckus online and in vigorous protests but when it comes to moving hearts and minds of the electorate it is an entirely different proposition?
