Enoch Burke’s frozen Bank of Ireland account

Enoch Burke published a video on Thursday of this week standing outside the Bank of Ireland in Castlebar. He was waving his bank card around.

He explained that he had gone to withdraw cash but discovered, to his dismay, that his account was frozen and he could not access his cash.

He went on to say that he had €40,000 of savings in that account, and it was now inaccessible. And that his salary from the Department of Education had not hit his account, it appeared to have been turned off.

This should not come as a surprise to him, given the High Court orders that have been made in his case in the last few weeks about the appointment of a receiver and conditional garnishee order.

But one thing he did not mention in his 9-minute video was the word “fine”.

We all know the reason for the freezing of his bank account and salary: his unpaid fines to the State.

It seemed to me like an unusual omission.
