The disappointment for the “concerned citizen” has started already

The disappointment has started already, and the election has not even been called yet.

There is a cohort of people out there at both ends of the political spectrum who have spent the last 5 years tweeting about how they could not wait to turn Fianna Fail, Fine Gael and the Greens out of office.

Initially, their great white hope to carry the flag for their anger and angst was Sinn Fein. But now they have discovered that Sinn Fein have seen the votes are to be found in the middle, not the extremes, and feel a sense of betrayal by Sinn Fein, describing them as “traitors”.

The tweet I caught this morning was along the lines of “what is wrong with the Irish people?” in response to an early opinion poll showing Fine Gael and Fianna Fail performing well.

It will be interesting to see how the election pans out.

But my opinion is the majority of Irish people will do what they have always done and vote for centrist policies and parties.

And then you will have another 5 years of noisy tweeting and angry posting online from the so-called, self-described “concerned citizens”.
