In the UK last week a woman (53) was jailed for 15 months for a Facebook post she made. Her comment was along the lines of letting a mosque burn in her locality together with the people in the mosque.
She has no previous convictions and is the sole carer for her husband or father.
Yet the judge went ahead and sent her to jail for 15 months.
Imagine the furore in Ireland if the judges here adopted such a strict sentencing policy.
Have you seen comments online that were likely to foment hatred and harassment? You had better believe you have.
But 15 months in jail? Unlikely.
Would it be effective, however?
